Commonly used AD assessment tools
  1. Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI)

    EASI is one of the most widely used instruments in clinical trials where the severity of symptoms and the area affected in different regions of the body are compiled to generate a single score.

  1. Patient Oriented Eczema Measure (POEM)

    POEM is a short scale, patient-derived tool that monitors eczema from the patients’ perspective.

  1. SCORing Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) index
    The SCORAD index is a clinical tool that assesses eczema based on the area affected, intensity, and the subjective symptoms of the patient. It is often used to monitor eczema treatment.

  1. Atopic Dermatitis Control Tool (ADCT)

    The ADCT was developed for patient self-assessment to provide better understanding of the disease and to facilitate doctor-patient communication.

  1. Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI)

    The DLQI is a simple, self-administered, questionnaire that measures the patients’ quality of life. Frequent use is not recommended as the time frame of the questions is over 1 week.

  1. Dermatitis Family Impact (DFI)

    The DFI questionnaire measures how the quality of life of other adult family members is affected by the child’s eczema. It was designed for adults who have a child of under 16 years old with AD in their family.
